It’s software update season in Apple’s world, with major new software updates for nearly everything. On Tuesday, September 19, 2023, Apple released Version 17 for the iOS family of operating systems, including iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, Apple Watch. This last Tuesday, September 26, 2023, brought Sonoma, which is macOS 14.0. Several older versions of macOS have had recent security updates, as well. There have been fresh firmware updates for other things, like AirPods, HomePods, and Apple Studio Displays. iCloud app, including iCloud.com, have been updated. Apple iWork software (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) was also updated.
There was a flurry of small bug fix updates for the iOS upgrades. That seems to have settled down now. I recommend checking all your Apple devices for updates, and update everything.
I won’t try to list all the new features, but I’ll provide some links to some reviews and overviews. One of my personal favorites is that Photos now recognizes cats and dogs, and lets you name them just like people. New things with Widgets are also pretty cool.

I’m considering teaching a course for Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UAH next term. It would be a course on using your Apple devices together, perhaps Living in the Apple Ecosystem. If you were to take such a course, what would you like to learn? Let me know.
